What happened to respect for those who shape young minds? What was once a symbol of respect and high calling is slowly fading today. Thinking about this phenomenon, I go back to the past, to the time when teachers were the bearers of knowledge and moral values. A special example of this is Saint Sava. Their job was not just a job, but a calling, requiring patience, dedication and a love of teaching. Teachers are not just transmitters of knowledge, they shape the character of children.
Today, while technology and science advance at the speed of light, this aspect of our society seems to be at a standstill. Teachers, teachers and professors are the key to the development of a society. Yet they seem to have been forgotten and neglected in the race for progress. Financial support for education is insufficient, and support from the environment is often absent.
How much do "modern technologies" benefit us (not)?
In a world where artificial intelligence and robots would potentially take over everything, we should still look back critically and think carefully about all the advantages and disadvantages. Is it really possible for the role of a teacher to be completely taken over by a machine? If we just remember our teachers, the first thing that comes to mind is the love and care she gave us. So, I think that a robot will never be able to replace a human in that sense. Kindergarten teachers are the bright spots in our lives for many of us, because they are the first ones we meet when we leave the family nest. Artificial intelligence cannot afford the tenderness that a child needs in order to develop. Of course, all the potential that modern times offer us should be used in the right way. Technologies have significantly improved the quality of teaching and one should not "run away" from them, but rather approach them critically and use them in the right way.
How to restore the reputation of this profession?
Every year there are fewer and fewer students who are interested in teaching. I don't think there is a quick and easy solution to this problem that can be implemented overnight. Reputation and authority did not disappear overnight. Everyone as an individual should definitely change their attitudes, beliefs and prejudices that may exist, and then society as a collective community will be to some extent a better and more beautiful place to live. The significance of the teacher's and teacher's vocation is much more important than it seems at first glance, because many dialectical units such as theory and practice, education and upbringing, material, formal and educated etc. are interwoven. Restoring dignity and respect to this profession requires a joint effort by society to once again recognize their significant role in shaping the future.
